This week in Monthly Theme we continued testing out the magic-like properties of water.
This week we wanted to know how water would react to objects being put into it.
“What will happen if I push this pencil into this bag?”
“It will pop!” “No, it won’t pop! I know this one.”
It didn’t pop. The tightness of the bag around the pencil kept the water from leaking out.
For our next experiment we needed a very full glass of water.
“What will happen if I drop a marble into a full glass of water?”
“How many marbles before the bubble on top breaks? One, five, ten?”
Some students guessed low, some guessed high. Our highest guess was 30.
“That’s two…”
“That’s five…”
Students were shocked as one by one their classmates continued adding marbles.
“Thirty one, thirty two, thirty three…”
We kept adding more and more. We had a toweland bucket at the ready for when the bubble burst.
“Forty one, forty two…”
The bubble at the top of the glass kept getting higher and higher.
“Forty nine… oh, we’re out of marbles.”
Our bubble was still holding strong at 49 marbles dropped in.
In conclusion, the glass of water can hold more than 49 marbles.
Wow! Water really is amazing.
