This Thursday in ACCESS Science class we learned about the phases of the moon. Some of the students helped demonstrate how the light from the sun casts shadows on the face of the moon as it makes its way around the Earth.

After we all understood why the moon has phases, we learned what they’re called. Each of the students got to cut and fold their own book with all of the phases!

Then it was time for a tasty surprise. The students worked in teams to make the phases of the moon out of Oreo cookies!
First, we need to see the Earth.

Next, carefully separate the cookies and carve the icing.

After that, arrange them in order.

Now, let’s make sure to label them nicely.

And finally, time for a mini snack!

Great job everyone!
