Today in science class, we learned all about Japanese Brown Bears.

First, we talked about where they live and what the weather is like up in Hokkaido. Then we discussed what you should and shouldn’t do when you encounter a brown bear.

The students wrote down their guesses about what actions would be good ideas or bad ideas. Then we tested it out, with teacher Kat as the bear!

Some of the students were told to run away.

That was a bad idea! The bear attacked.
Some of the students were told to play dead.

Or quietly put their hands up and back away slowly.

It worked! The bear went away!
Great job students! Now they are ready to go hiking in Hokkaido.
