Today we started a two week project making a Daruma. This special doll will bring us good luck in 2026!
The Daruma won’t have eyes at first until we make a wish. After making our wish for this year, the left eye will be filled in. When our dream has been fulfilled, the right eye will be filled in!
The base of our Daruma was made of newspaper. We rolled the newspaper into a ball, and covered it with a paper mache mixture, and red paper.
“Make it small.”
“Make it small!!”
“Is this ok?”
“More glue, more glue.”
“Is this enough?”
“More glue on the red.”
“So sticky.”
“One more?”
“Red paper please!”
To finish off our work for today, we put on the face of the Daruma.
“Almost finished.”
