Last week students learned about two different kinds of forests.

This week, they learned about one more – the boreal forest.

This forest is very cold and is only found in the far North of the Northern Hemisphere.

Boreal forests also have coniferous trees.

At the beginning of the lesson we spritzed a magic water onto our pinecones.

Our magic needed some time to do its work.

While waiting, students observed some animals that live in the boreal forest.

Some animals, like the black bear, were familiar to them.

Students took a look at their transforming pinecones.

Something had begun happening. They were turning white.

After another spritz of the magic water, it was time to start working on a project.

Students chose animals that live in the boreal forest to color.

They also worked on making a background.

Then it was time to check on the pinecones.

They now had a nice layer of snow on them.

They were ready to be added to our display.

With all animals and trees added to the display, the boreal forest was now complete.
