This week we continued our exploration of the food groups.
This week was all about vegetables.

Students were asked the difficult question – is it a fruit or a vegetable?

The worksheet looked simple at first.
A green pepper must be a vegetable.
No, a green pepper is a fruit!
Students were surprised to learn that anything with seeds inside of it is a fruit, as it is the fruit part of the plant.
However, we can still call it a vegetable when we are cooking or eating it.

Next it was time to learn about the parts of vegetables that we eat.

Some were easy, but others made students stop to think.
Is it the root? The stem?

We’ll continue exploring vegetables more next week with a fun and tasty project.
