This month, our students are learning about the forest in winter and how plants and animals adapt to cold weather. We started by comparing deciduous and coniferous forests and learning about animals that live in these environments.

This week, we also did a short pinecone experiment. Students learned that pinecones close in cold, dry weather to protect their seeds. When we poured hot water on them, the pinecones slowly opened, and the children were excited to watch the change happen.

One student exclaimed, “Wow,
that was so much fun!”
