Today we learned about temperature and how we measure it in Celsius. We talked about hot and cold things and looked at different thermometers, learning how they work. Some are used for people, some to measure the outside temperature and others for objects.

Then we looked at how water behaves at different temperatures and sorted some pictures, matching them with the right temperatures. Did you know that water already freezes at 0°C?

After that, we became little scientists and measured objects inside and outside. Using the infrared thermometer was very exciting!

Next, we measured our own body temperature and compared the results. Everyone was curious to see their number. Luckily nobody had a fever. The body temperature is a great way to see if somebody is sick, or not.

To finish, we jumped and moved around to warm up. Then we measured again, it was interesting to see how the numbers changed.

We ended the day with many new ideas and a better understanding of temperature!

Bad Luck Out, Good Luck In!

Today was a special day. Do you know why?

That’s right, it was Setsubun.

Students learned about the story of the ogre at Setsubun and why we throw beans at him.

They knew they had to be ready if an ogre showed up to the classroom.

The ogre came and began attacking the students.

He even caught a few of them.

However, the students fought back.

They weren’t going to let the ogre get away with it.

It took some convincing, but with their chants of “Bad luck out, good luck in!” ACCESS students chased away the ogre.

Then it was time to bring more good luck in by eating our beans.

They ate one bean for every year they were alive, then one more for good luck.

Bad luck out, good luck in!
