In Monthly Theme this week, we continued exploring how water changes.

What will melt ice faster – salt, sugar, baking soda, or dirt?

Students thought about the propertie of each and made their hypothesis.

Most students thought dirt, though some thought sugar would melt the ice the fastest.

To begin the experiment, students added in each ingredient to its bowl.

We had ten minutes to wait until we could see our results, so we did another experiment in the meantime.

“I have 200ml of water. I will put 200ml of water in each container. How much of the container do you think it will fill?”

Some of our glasses were so full they were almost bursting.

Students were amazed at how many different shapes water can take.

It was soon time to check in on our experiment.

“Which melted the most?” “The sugar!” “No, the salt!”

The salt melted the most, but he sugar came in a close second.

To finish off the day, students were given a chance to feel the results.

The salt made the ice very bumpy.

It’s always fun to get hands-on with experiments.
