Today we begin our month of learning about the circus. For the first lesson I asked students to guess our theme by looking at some pictures. Speaking with the class, it was clear they knew the circus involves animals, and maybe popcorn.
We read about the history of the circus and about the kinds of acts that are typically performed. Two big circus troupes are Cirque du Soleil and the Bolshoi Circus. We read about their histories and differences.
To end the lesson the students had the chance to practice some acrobatics themselves. Building a balance beam they tried walking along without falling off.
