Today in ACCESS we continued with our Science theme of “Birds”.

To begin our lesson we discussed all of the birds the students know and what special features birds have like feathers, beaks, and tails.

Next, we watched a video on why feathers are so important. We learned about how strong they are, how they keep birds warm in the winter months, and how they are waterproof. The most important fact was that birds could not fly if they didn’t have feathers.

Lastly, the students got to observe some real feathers. The students got to touch and see up close peacock feathers and pheasant feathers. Once they had a good look and feel of the feathers, they drew some observatory drawings of the feathers.
