The students have been learning about the colonisation of America. From accross Europe, settlers came and made their own communities. They encountered many problems, not only with the locals, but also the rival countries who also wished to get a piece of the pie.
In the class, the students discussed what they already knew about the US and they read about how their knowledge of places has been influenced over time by the English, French, and Spanish and the relationships they developed with the Native Americans have resulted in the culture that defines the US today.
One area that the boys were particularly interested in was the kinds of forts that each settlement built, so they spent some time looking for examples of forts and castles that were built by the Spanish and English settlers and drew their own reimagining of them.
Great work!
