This week in ACCESS we continued learning about ancient Egypt. In particular we explored how the bodies of pharaohs were prepared for the afterlife.

We learned the bodies are specially prepared as many of the internal organs are taken out of the body. The body is then dried with salt for 40 days. This helps the body stay in good condition.

The organs like the stomach, intestines, liver, and heart were considered very important. They were put in a special boxes.

The body, was then washed and wrapped in cloth. It was then placed in a beautifully decorated container called the sarcophagus. The students decorated their sarcophagus with patterns, shapes, and colors to help their pharaoh have a nice journey to their new life.

Let’s continue to learn more this month about ancient Egypt.
